Certified as Women, again … whew

June 11th, 2010

We admit, it was a tad nerve-wracking.  We didn’t know what to expect.  How many people would be there?  Would they ask hard questions?  Most importantly, where would we find a coffee house with wireless?  Oh, the stress.

However, we pressed on to the task and met with the Recertification Board of the South Carolina Office of Small and Minority-owned Businesses Assistance in Columbia, SC.  They were a larger than anticipated group, although we suspect that the free pizza for lunch might have enticed some people to join.  They asked good questions, but not many.  (Did we mention that the free pizza for lunch made its entry to the room just as we did?  We’re not rocket scientists or anything; we’re just sayin’.)  And in the end, they decided that June is, in fact, still a woman and does, in fact, still own Adec.  We have been officially recertified by the OSMBA.  Congratulations are in order.  Pizza, anyone?

Time Around the Table

June 1st, 2010

We firmly ascribe to the idea that time around a table for a meal is about the best thing you can do for your family. (We buy that in theory, at least, but it sure can be hard to put into practice sometimes. You just gotta do the best you can do.) So if it’s good for our real family, wouldn’t it be good for our work family, too?

That’s what got us thinking. There aren’t very many of us. Why not eat together once a week? We think there is as much value in that quality time for us at work as there is for us at home. Plus, we all like to eat. Sure, our schedules are kind of crazy and don’t always line up just so, but every Monday around noon-ish, we gather together in our conference room to enjoy the meal that one of us has prepared for the group. It’s not gourmet, but it’s usually delicious, and we all look forward to it as if it were gourmet. In fact, we usually begin talking about it every Monday around 10:00 because we look forward to it. (On the other days of the week, we don’t typically begin discussing lunch options until much later … about 10:30.)

Every one tosses in five bucks a week. Everyone takes turns cooking something. Just like a real family, everyone has a hand in it somewhere. If you don’t cook, you might help set-up or clean-up. You might wash dishes or take out the trash. And for that one hour, our Adec family is just that … a family. We catch up with each other; we laugh; some have been accused of stealing food off another’s plate, but I’m sure that never really happened. We’re thinking of coming out with an Adec recipe book because we’ve all been so impressed with ourselves and what we can conjure up from a warming plate and a crock pot. We are good cooks, yes, but we are an even better team. It just takes a little time around the table once a week.

ADEC PREPS MEALS WITH A SMILE

Before Meals on Wheels Can Deliver the Food, Someone’s Got to Pack It

GREENVILLE, SC (March 23, 2010) –  The adec group, a channel management firm located in Greenville, SC, is packing food for Meals on Wheals tomorrow for their first quarter community involvement project.

Nancy Newby, office manager of the adec group, chose Meals on Wheels as the company’s project, and when the choice of packing the food or delivering the food arose, it was a no-brainer.  Tim Mesaric, vice-president of the adec group, says, “Packing the food is a great analogy for the channel management we actually do.  Every body needs to eat, but some people get low sodium meals, some people don’t eat meat, some people need lunch right now, and some people need a frozen meal for the weekend.  So we make sure the diabetic meals and the vegetarian meals are packed in the right cooler, headed for the right address. That’s exactly what we do with a company’s message and presence on-line: package it appropriately for each person’s need.  It’s not often we get to explain things to people that concretely.  And to know that we are making a difference to the people who receive the meals is the best part.”

Nine adec employees will be packing food tomorrow at Meals on Wheels, and Mesaric says they are all looking forward to it. “We enjoy working together, we enjoy helping together, we just enjoy each other’s company.  I’m sure we’ll have a good time.  Laughter is never in short supply.”

GSATC AND ADEC GROUP HOST PETER COFFEE, VP OF SALESFORCE.COM

February 12th, 2010

GREENVILLE, SC (February 12th, 2010) –Adec group, a channel management firm located in Greenville, SC, partnered with Greenville/Spartanburg Area Technology Council (GSATC) to bring to town a top executive of salesforce.com, Peter Coffee.

Coffee’s presentation provided a candid look at how Cloud computing is changing the way businesses look at the internet.  “We have been focusing our talents and gifts on the wrong areas,” said Coffee.  “We all need to recognize that cloud computing, shared resources, and user communities are the new tools for success.  They are cheaper, more powerful, and easier to use than our traditional tools of custom coding and physical servers.”  Coffee encouraged attendees to leverage these tools in the right ways to ensure forward motion with this new wave of energy, rather than being left behind.

Phil Yanov, chairman of the GSATC, has been trying for months to get Coffee to speak to this group.  “I first saw Peter back in June, and I knew I wanted to get him here as soon as we could.  He is dynamic, intelligent, and a delight to hear.  He’s also in the know about what’s coming down the pipe from both salesforce.com and the larger community.”

June Wilcox, president of adec group and presenting sponsor of the event, was equally enthusiastic.  “After more than a decade of working with CRM on specific, purchased platforms, we have been seeing the signs of the market opening up, welcoming the addition of the cloud computing concept to bring more players into the larger game.  Cost and size are no longer exclusive in the way they used to be.  Salesforce CRM is such a powerful tool that it can be overwhelming; we make it manageable and productive for clients of all sizes; Peter’s knowledge helps us do our job even better.”

The other 200 people in attendance would echo Phil’s and June’s praise.  Response and interest were so great that GSATC will soon facilitate the development of a user group, a community for users of salesforce.com and other interested parties.  For more information, please check out GSATC’s website:  www.gsatc.org.

With more than a decade of experience managing content updates, setups, implementations, upgrades, and other similar services for large customers, it seemed a natural fit to offer that expertise to a broader customer base. ADEC ANNOUNCES COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT ACTION PLAN

December 12th, 2009

A Small Group Can Make A Difference

GREENVILLE, SC (December 12th, 2009) – Adec group, a channel management firm located in Greenville, SC, announced a new plan to participate in local community service projects every quarter.

Today’s tough economy means that many people could use a little more help, and the adec group employees are ready to step up to the plate and help out.  Each of the adec group employees will take a turn choosing a volunteer project for the company to do; all employees will tackle one service project a quarter.

“We’ve always been involved with our community, traditionally in programs such as Habitat for Humanity and Building Dreams. This is just a chance for us to take our nature and make it an official policy,” says June Wilcox, President of the adec group.

This group of about 10 employees takes their professional dedication to customer service and focuses it on the community.  “We really think part of our purpose as human beings is to help each other out, be it in the corporate world or in the community.  That’s just how it’s supposed to work.  The fact that we really enjoy it is just icing on the cake.”

ADEC PITCHES IN WITH HABITAT FOR HUMANITY

November 7th, 2009

Adec Women Make the 2009 Habitat Women Build Even Stronger

GREENVILLE, SC (November 7th, 2009) –Several female employees of the adec group, a channel management firm located in Greenville, SC, participated in the current Habitat for Humanity Women Build today.

June Wilcox, president of the adec group, was on the board for the first Women’s Build in Greenville County in 1999.  Since then, she’s been hooked, and she’s spreading the word to her friends and colleagues.  This year she suggested it to the females at her company.  Gina McCullough was one who took her up on it.

“Habitat for Humanity is such a great organization, but this is a particularly special project because this house goes to a single mom who is working really hard to change her environment, and it is built solely by women.  Working beside the homeowner was the best part.  It’s very empowering for all involved,” says McCullough, content management specialist at the adec group.

The house will be dedicated within the next few months.  To find out more information or make contributions, go to www. habitatgreenville.com.
